Securing the Vatican's archives

03 October 2018

In the new Don BOSCO library in the Vatican, storing books is of vital importance as specific references are highly-sensitive: their access must be secure and the environment controlled. Against this backdrop, the SILO ASRS seemed the obvious choice: the SILO mini-load, composed of a 23-metre long and 7-metre high structure was perfect for storing and consulting all the library's documents/books spread over 2,252 different containers. The SILO ASRS automated arm/crane can work on several levels of the library so that access to all the documents is carried out in less than 30 seconds.

The solution is equipped with an automatic fire detection system and an automatic PF23 gas (inert gas) extinction system, the sides are fire-resistant (REI 120). The environment also comprises air-cooling equipment and a deratting system.

The SILO improved library resource management whilst optimizing the staff's time.
